De film is geproduceerd door Dharma Productions in samenwerking met Shah Rukh Khan’s Red Chillies Entertainment. Met deze film maken de acteurs Alia Bhatt (dochter van regisseur Mahesh Bhatt), Varun Dhawan (zoon van regisseur David Dhawan) en Siddharth Malhotra hun acteerdebuut.
Student of the Year staat gepland voor een release op 19 oktober 2012.
